18th to 22nd January 2010: This week we will be celebrating writing across the school and we have a programme of imaginative and inspiring activities planned - all linked to our Time Travel topic. Also, award winning author Steven Smallman will visit our school on Wednesday 20th January. At Fenstanton and Hilton School we aim for our children to be hooked on writing for life: seeing themselves as authors and understanding the creative, practical and enjoyable possibilities that writing has to offer. We will be particularly focussing on extending children's creative writing skills. Inviting writers into school encourages pupils to write. We are delighted to announce that the award winning author and illustrator Steven Smallman will visit our school on Wednesday 20th January. He will read his stories and talk about where his ideas came from. All children will take part in a workshop with him where they will learn to develop their own story ideas. I am sure the children will find it great fun and tremendously motivating! Homework ChallengeLast Thursday 'The Professor' emerged from the Tardis! He asked the children if they could design for him a new hat fit for a time traveller. He has since been in touch with me and has given further details. If your child wishes to take part in this homework challenge they must:
The Professor and I look forward to seeing all the children's ideas! Time CapsuleAll children will choose one item that they think people of the future will be interested to see and which will tell them something about life in Fenstanton 2010. A range of their ideas will be mounted in the Entrance Hall. As Literacy Co-ordinator, I have really enjoyed organising this week and we are sure your child will enjoy taking part! Mrs Brereton |
